| Patient Cooling with Care: Set, Wrap and Cool |
Charter Kontron has recently introduced the new CritiCool cooling system in the UK. CritiCool utilises the latest MTRE technology for therapeutic hypothermia (TH), treating various neurological Injuries.
CritiCool is a non-invasive, simple, easy and safe method of cooling patients that is already established in many medical institutions around the world.
Initiation of cooling, time to target temperature and re-warming are some of the required strategies and features that are best measured and controlled by CritiCool.
Using a proprietary algorithm based controller, and patient's core temperature feedback, the CritiCool circulates pre-cooled and chlorinated water through a ºCureWrap garment, which encircles the patient during treatment.
The AHA and ILCOR jointly recommend that post cardiac arrest patients be cooled to 32°C - 34°C for a period of 12 - 24 hours.
With new CPR guidelines further affirming the roll of TH and the fact that TH may also be beneficial in brain trauma, stroke and myocardial infarction has encouraged the development of garments and wrapping approaches in all sizes.
